Heavy rain wrecks havoc in Sringeri

The heavy rain which lashed Sringeri wrecked havoc in the taluk.

With the rain, Barkana, Sirimane, Soothanabbi waterfalls have come alive. The schools and colleges had declared holiday following rain, on Tuesday.

From January till date, Malnad area in Chikkamagaluru had received 946.2 mm rainfall. On Tuesday, Sringeri received 113 mm rainfall.

The compound wall of a house in Kanchinagara has collapsed. The Sringeri-Koppa stretch of NH 169 has developed cracks at Kavadi.

Several electricity poles have been uprooted at Anegunda, Vidyaranyapura, and near JCBM College hostel.

The transformers have been damaged at Thekkuru, Kocchavalli, Kunchebailu, Addagadde, Menase, Halandooru, Kikre and other areas. As a result, the villagers have experienced power outage for the last three days.

Internet services have been affected in the banks. The rise in the water-level of Thunga river has marooned Kappeshankara temple.

The disruption in power supply has affected the supply of drinking water in Sringeri.

Farmers are not in a position to clear weeds grown on the farmland following rain.

The rain has hampered the spraying of Bordeaux mixture, to check arecanut trees getting affected with fruit rot disease. If the rain continues, then black pepper may be affected with bacterial wilt (soragu roga).

The number of tourists visiting Sringeri has come down drastically following rain, which in turn has affected the business.
