Thrilled by his maiden ride on the Delhi Metro, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday described the transport system as “amongst the best in the world”.

The Akali Dal patriarch, who was accompanied by Delhi Metro chief Mangu Singh, travelled from Central Secretariat to Rajiv Chowk and returned to Patel Chowk metro station where he visited the Metro museum.

“It is for the first time that I travelled by Delhi Metro. I enjoyed it. It is an excellent experience. Our Metro service is comparable to the Metros in other parts of the world,” Badal said.

The Punjab government also plans to start metro service in Ludhiana city. The Delhi Mmetro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Ludhiana city comprising two corridors covering about 29 kilometre. While corridor-1 is of 16 kilometre from Ayali Chowk to BBMB Power House, the 13-km-long corridor-2 is from Gill Village to Rahon Road Chungi. The DPR has already been submitted by DMRC to the Government of Punjab.
