Fog delays 51 Delhi-bound trains

Foggy conditions delayed 51 Delhi-bound trains on Friday. Another 13 trains were rescheduled due to the Delhi weather conditions.

The Capital recorded the minimum temperature at 6.8 degree Celsius with moderate to dense fog, one notch below normal and the maximum settled at 16.3 degree Celsius, four notches below normal.

The maximum humidity was recorded at 94 per cent and the minimum at 63 per cent.
“Certain areas were cloudy. There was fog and mist with not much sunlight in most parts of the city. The wind was blowing at 4km per hour in Palam in the morning,” said a Met official.

The visibility was 500 metres at 5.30 am and 8.30 am, the official added.

Flights not hit

Airport authority officials said the fog did not disrupt operations at the airport on Friday. “There were no delays, diversions or cancellations due to Delhi weather. Twenty-two flights were conducted using instrument landing system under CAT-I,” said an airport authority official.

Train services were severely hit with trains from West Bengal, Orissa, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Punjab late by several hours.

The Delhi-bound trains which were running late included Golden Temple ML, Jhelum Express, Amritsar Express, Kolkata Rajdhani, NDLS Duronto Exp, Brahmaputra Mail, Gondwana Exp, Shaheed Exp, Karnataka Express, Sangam Express and Mangaldweep Express, among others.

Thirteen trains to depart from Delhi were rescheduled. These trains were bound for Amritsar, Kolkata, Kanpur, Secunderabad.

Similar weather conditions are likely to persist on Saturday. Certain parts of the city will be cloudy in the afternoon

“The sky will be mainly clear in the morning. It will become partly cloudy in the afternoon. The maximum temperature will be around 17 degree Celsius and the minimum will hover around 7 degree Celsius. The fog will range from moderate to dense,” said the Met official.

The fog intensity and duration is likely to reduce from January 10 morning or night, said another Met official.
