The Delhi election office invited cricketer Ishant Sharma at a function for voter sensitisation in east Delhi on Saturday.

The Delhi speedstar urged the visitors to cast their votes. Hundreds of people gathered at the V3S mall of Lakshmi Nagar to have a glimpse of Delhi’s star pacer. “Do not spend the voting day as a holiday. Cast your vote if you need change in the system,” he told.

The programme was held under the poll panel’s Systematic Voter’s Education and Sensitisation Programme. Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi Vijay Dev and other senior electoral officers also joined the programme.

“Interaction with such celebrities encourages voters to participate in the biggest celebration of a democracy. Through the SVEEP, we are trying to ensure a maximum turn out in the coming Parliamentary elections on April 10. We are trying to encourage the young voters to come out of thier homes on the polling day,” Dev said.

The poll panel also organised a mock polling at the function and gave a demo to the visitors to cast their votes.

“We have elaborated the procedure of casting the vote through a demo so that the voters should not have any confusion at the time of polls,” he added.
