OpenAI unveils ChatGPT Health to simplify medical reports and wellness data

It will offer more concise and accurate health recommendations based on the body metrics tracked by fitness apps linked to smart watches and other smart health gadgets, and even the mental wellness applications.

Due to complicated medical jargon, people most often find it difficult to clearly understand their diagnosis in their medical test report. Even if explained by a professional doctor, the information remains for a short duration in the user's mind. Instead of returning to the hospital, most people try to check online or switch on their generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI) apps and type their symptoms.

Some naive people go a little further to get recommendations from AI apps on medication, psychiatric advice, and diet plans, and this has resulted in adverse effects.

Now, OpenAI has announced a new ChatGPT Health feature that allows users to link their health app and mental wellness tracking applications to get factual information about their fitness and health.

Microsoft-backed company revealed that on average, more than 230 million people globally ask health and wellness-related questions on ChatGPT every week.

Here's where ChatGPT Health comes into play to offer more concise and accurate health recommendations based on the body metrics tracked by fitness apps linked to smart watches and other smart health gadgets, and even the mental wellness applications.

It will help users understand recent test results and prepare for appointments with the doctor. Also, offer advice on how to approach the diet and workout routine, or understand the tradeoffs of different insurance options based on the user's healthcare patterns.

"(ChatGPT) Health is designed to support, not replace, medical care. It is not intended for diagnosis or treatment. Instead, it helps you navigate everyday questions and understand patterns over time—not just moments of illness—so you can feel more informed and prepared for important medical conversations," the company said.

As part of the user privacy policy, ChatGPT Health is isolated within ChatGPT, where the conversations, connected apps, and files are stored separately from personal other chats.

OpenAI also notes that ChatGPT Health has separate memories, ensuring that the user's health context stays contained within the space. And users can still see health chats in the chat history, so he/she can easily return to them, but the information itself stays within the Health section.
