Incomplete works by the National Highway in Thokkottu junction and Pumpwell circle have intensified the waterlogging problem during heavy rains on Tuesday, alleged Mangaluru MLA U T Khader.

Addressing reporters at the District Congress Committee office on Wednesday, he said that the “procrastinating” attitude of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has resulted in an inordinate delay of flyover constructions at Thokkottu and Pumpwell. The Chief Officer of NHAI has expressed his negligent attitude during the heavy water-logging on Tuesday. There were not enough facilities by the authority to clear the debris. A delegation from Congress will submit a complaint to the Union Road Transport Minister against the inefficiency of the company in finishing the constructions, he said and urged the Central Government to initiate action against the construction company which has failed to stand up to the expectations of the public.

He further said that he could not take part in the review meetings related to the waterlogging situation as the model code of conduct for MLC elections is in force. The MLA urged the district administration to come up with precautionary measures towards sea erosion in Ullal.

Lamenting about the loss of lives and property during the heavy rains on Tuesday, he thanked the police department for its involvement in the relief work.
