Tusker gores fellow jumbo to death

A 40-year-old tusker died in a fight with another male elephant near Hosagadde under Mathigodu range of forest, Nagarahole National Park limits on Monday.

According to assistant conservator of forests S R Prasanna Kumar, the incident occurred at around 5.30 am and the tusker was gored by the other jumbo. It sustained serious injuries on its stomach and collapsed.

Forest personnel found the elephant lying in a pool of blood and battling for life when they were on patrol at around 10 am. It breathed its last as its internal organs were damaged in the fight.

Veterinarian Dr Najeebul Rehman conducted the post-mortem, before the final rites were performed.
