<p>An Uttar Pradesh university has come up with a unique proposal in an attempt to check mass copying at its examinations.<br /><br /></p>.<p>It is considering to allow students to carry books and keys (containing solved questions) with them to the examination halls and write the answers with their help. The proposal, mooted by Kanpur-based Chatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University, could come into effect from this academic session if it was accepted by the executive council of the varsity and gets positive response from the affiliated colleges and students.<br /><br />According to the varsity officials it will be up to the examinees to decide whether they want to carry the books and keys with them and write answers with their help. Those opting for taking the books into the examination halls with them would, however, not be given any grade. <br /><br />Pass or fail<br /><br />“They will get either a pass or failed grade. They will not be given any division,” the university officials said.<br /><br />“Only the students, who do not take help of the books to write their answers, will be considered for division,” the officials said. They said that the examinees would have to fill up forms stating whether they want to copy from the books or will prefer to write their answers without the help of books. “There will be different examination centres for both types of examinations,” they added.<br /><br />The idea was mooted after the incidents of large scale copying at the university examinations in the past. The officials said that the proposal would soon be put before the executive council and examination committee of the university and would also be sent to the principals and teachers of the affiliated colleges. “It will be put into effect when we get a green signal from them'”, the officials added.<br /><br />Copying has turned out to be a major problem in the examinations of state universities and UP board and all steps to check it have failed to yield any positive result.</p>
