‘Article 19’ at SOC from today

The annual media event ‘Article 19’ of the School of Communication (SOC) is being organised from February 7 to 9.

Dr Padma Rani, director of SOC, told reporters that the event would comprise primarily talks by eminent media personnel and an array of competitive and cultural events.

Swarajya’s consulting editor and columnist Anand Ranganathan will join the students to speak on the topic, ‘Science, Selectivity and Public Discourse’, following the inaugural ceremony on February 7.

Manipuri author and director Bobby Wahengbam, who is credited with bringing Manipuri cinema to the centre stage, is going to interact with the audience.

The first address, by Omar Mohammed, is going to mark the 2019 edition of Article 19.

Omar Mohammed, better known as the ‘Mosul Eye’, is an Iraqi historian and citizen journalist. Through his news blog, he has brought out the adversities of Islamic extremist groups in Mosul. He is going to join the students through a live, online session from France on February 8.

Telugu film director and SOC alumnus Nag Ashwin will host an interactive session after the screening of his award-winning film ‘Mahanati’ on February 8.

The fourth speaker is Archishman ‘FeTT’ Pradhan, esports player and content developer in the field of gaming and technology, who is going to discuss ‘The Scenario of Esports in India’ on February 9.

In addition to the seminars chaired by different speakers, various online and offline competitions in the field of fine arts, writing and sports will be held on the occasion.

The event will include the Express Awards, a formal award ceremony.
