Amazon, Flipkart begin Independence Day sales, deals ahoy

High on the heels of the 70th Independence Day of India, Amazon has begun its Great Indian sale today, with discount and cashback offers across categories, all the way till the 12th of August. Prime members get an extra edge with Prime-exclusive deals and early access to top deals across various brands as well.

Breaking down the sale across some categories:

Electronics: Amazon is offering discounts on a wide variety of electronic products, from SD cards to televisions and everything in between. Bluetooth speakers are discounted upto 52%, while televisions get multiple Prime-exclusive deals with discounts averaging in the 25-30% range.

Mobile phones also see a decent discount, with the Apple iPhone 7's 32 GB model selling for a price of Rs. 43,000 as opposed to the normal price of Rs. 56,200. Moto G5 Plus also gets a discount, selling at Rs. 15,000 as opposed to Rs. 17,000. Amazon is also offering no cost EMI on certain products, along with exchange offers.

Those in the lookout for a new laptop need not look much further, as Amazon has also slashed prices for various laptops in multiple price ranges, be it an office or home use laptop, or one meant for gaming and creative productivity. Discounts range from 7% to as much as 30+%.


Fashion: Amazon has launched a set of deals sure to make people feel like spending, with a discount of upto 70% on brands like Titan, Marks & Spencer, Redtape, U.S. Polo, Fastrack and so on.

Infants and children also get some love, with products from various brands, both locally sourced and international, getting a discount of upto 70%.


Home Appliances: Amazon has not held back with the discounts, with larger appliances getting an equally meaty discounts. Mixers, irons, kettles, microwaves, washing machines, water purifiers and so on are all discounted fashionably, with products receiving cuts of upt60 60%.


Movies and home media: Perhaps the most heavily discounted category of them all, home media of movies and TV shows see some ridiculously generous discounts, with the minimum offer being as low as 40% for some TV series to as high as 80% off for popular movies on Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D.


Amazon's principal competitior, Flipkart, too, has initated its own sale called the 'Big Freedom Sale', which runs from August 9 to August 11. Products are similarly discounted as Amazon across various categories, leaving both competitors primed to capture as many customers as they can in the 3-4 day period. Either way, no matter which seller you choose, you're likely to get the best deals possible for your favorite product or that little thing hidden away in your wishlist for the longest time.
