Ambassador of Mexico to India Melba Pria inaugurated the new Consulate office for the country here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, she said bilateral trade between Mexico and India touched $8.5 billion in 2017. “I am expecting it will increase further to over $10 billion this year. We have around 80 Indian manufacturing and services companies in Mexico. India has around 20 Mexican companies and Mexico is India’s third-largest crude oil supplier,” she said.

On the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Mexico in Bengaluru, Pria said it is the fourth consulate in the country and it is a natural destination for Mexico to expand.

“Bengaluru is the tech capital of India. Mexico is really looking at collaborating with India in its journey to achieve greater competency in manufacturing with Industry 4.0 practices, where India’s software capability will help,” she said.

Mexico also plans to join hands with India in economic, education and cultural areas. “We are the first country in the world to recognise independent India and the relationship is further fostered via mutual collaboration in various international forums for a global cause, especially in environmental issues, trade, and cyber security among others,” she told reporters here in Bengaluru.

Sandeep Kumar Maini, the Chairman of Maini Group, took charge as the Honorary Consul of Mexico in Bengaluru. “I am privileged to be the Honorary Consul of the Mexican consulate and will help further strengthening bilateral ties and cultural exchange,” he said.  Maini also pointed out that the consulate will help in processing the student and economic visas.
