According to the source, the bomb dated to the Stalingrad Battle period was found on a waste plot of land in Volgograd's Sovetsky district one kilometre off the Gulya Korolyova settlement.

Local residents said unidentified men conducted excavations on the plot, although when rescuers arrived the men had fled. The men might be the so-called 'black diggers,' who dig for Soviet and German WWII artifacts, the source said.

"The place where the bomb had been unearthed was cordoned off. Bomb technicians from the Rostov emergencies administration will soon arrive in Volgograd to render the bomb inactive, which has laid buried for 67 years, harmless," the source added. This is the sixth WWII drop bomb unearthed in Volgograd region in 2010.
