Thalassaemia patient's police dream comes true

For 12-year-old Shashank, the dream of becoming a police inspector came true on Tuesday.

Shashank, a resident of Narayanahalli in Chintamani, was admitted to Vani Vilas hospital with Thalassaemia and a diabetic condition.

When in hospital, he expressed his wish to become a police officer.

South Division DCP S D Sharanappa granted the permission and made him honorary in-charge of VV Puram police station for one day.

As Shashank took charge as the police inspector, he arrived in police uniform accompanied by VV Puram inspector T D Raju in a police jeep and received the honour before entering his cabin.

As the “young officer” was introduced to the other staff, he shook hands with them and received a bouquet and got salutes from fellow policemen.

Shashank also did the rounds of the station where he visited the lock-up and the weapon room.

He later sat on the inspector’s chair and was briefed about the crimes in the police station limits and its activities.

Sharanappa spoke to him for a few minutes and gifted him toy walkie-talkie and a toy gun and dropped him back at Vani Vilas Hospital.

Shashank said it was his childhood dream to become a police officer and punish drunkards who create a nuisance to their families and society.

Sharanappa wished him a speedy recovery and hoped that his wish of becoming a police officer would come true.

Shanshak’s parents Muniraju and Sujatha accompanied him to the station and were pleased with the treatment his son got from the police.
