Dog attacks: Rights panel summons BBMP commissioner

Last Updated 18 September 2018, 21:02 IST

The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) has registered a suo moto complaint against the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for not doing enough to prevent stray dog attacks on children.

The Commission has summoned N Manjunath Prasad, BBMP commissioner, and G Anand, joint director, Animal Husbandry, BBMP, after a pack of stray dogs mauled a 11-year-old boy, Praveen, at Vibhutipura near HAL on August 29.

Y Mariswamy, KSCPCR chairperson, said they have summoned the BBMP officials as they have been neglecting the increasing attacks by stray dogs on children.

“To begin with we will look into the cases of dog attacks over the past three years and specially at the cases where children have been attacked and check what steps have been taken by the BBMP to prevent it. We would later also like to study how other cities are managing this issue and try to find solutions for the same,” said Mariswamy.

The hearing is scheduled on September 22.
