Binnypet ward bypolls today

The byelection for the Binnypet ward will be held on Monday between 7 am and 5 pm. The election was necessitated by the demise of Binnypet corporator Mahadevamma Nagaraj in January.

The polling will take place in 37 booths across the ward. A total of 34,572 citizens — 17,746 men and 16,826 women — are eligible to cast their vote.

The ward has been reserved for general (women) category. Aishwarya B N, daughter of Mahadevamma, is contesting on a JD(S) ticket. She is being challenged by Chamundeshwari G from the BJP and the Congress' Srividya Shashikumar.

Counting of votes will be held on June 20 at the Home Science College. A holiday has been declared on Monday to nearby industries to facilitate the voting process.
