BJP leaders demand regularisation of all 32,000 pourakarmikas

Last Updated 30 August 2017, 20:19 IST

The BBMP will regularise the services of the pourakarmikas in a phased manner.

Informing this to the BBMP Council, commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said there are 8,000 sanctioned posts of pourakarmikas.

"About 2,000 will be added now. We will give weightage to those who have served for more number of years,” he said.

He denied reports that BBMP had submitted a report to the government to appoint one pourakarmika for every 700 people.

"The number of pourakarmikas will be appointed according to normative standards,” he said, adding he would bring the matter to the notice of the chief minister.

Earlier, Opposition party leader Padmanabha Reddy demanded the regularisation of services of all 32,000 pourakarmikas.

Reddy also demanded the resignation of Mayor G Padmavathi as there are reports of Congress and JD(S) MLCs enrolling as voters in the city through fraudulent means so as to vote in the Mayoral election.

Not convinced by the commissioner's reply on pourakarmikas, Reddy and other BJP members staged a walkout.
