Bengaluru, India's technology capital, is the front-runner in digital payments with the highest digital transactions in mobility, shows a study by the Ola Mobility Institute, Ola’s think-tank, which benchmarks cities on services offered, infrastructure and sustainability of mobility options.

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, Nitin Gadkari on Thursday released India’s first Ease of Moving Index 2018 in New Delhi. The index offers insight into mobility preferences and aspirations of commuters across 20 cities with a population of over 92 million.

The report revealed that 75% of Bengalureans feel the state of mobility improved over the past five years.

According to the report, Bengaluru has one of the best quality of footpaths in the country and is also amongst the top four cities with the safest public transportation.

Furthermore, the report states that the wide availability of mobility services in the city has seen a rise in commuters choosing public transport and ridesharing for their daily transportation.

Also with four out of five respondents from the city preferring sustainable modes of commute, there is a huge potential for green mobility in Bengaluru.

Some key findings of the report state that 80% of citizens in the country agree that the transport ecosystem has improved over the past five years and 60% of respondents report the use of public modes of commute. Also, over 40% commuters transact digitally for Intermediary Public Transport.

Speaking at the event Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-founder & CEO, Ola said: “The revolution in mobility is just beginning and we believe the emergence of a mobility economy can be a catalyst for economic and social development for the nation. The ‘Ease of Moving Index’ helps us begin to assess the importance of mobility for cities and citizens."
