Students who wish to pursue a PhD in the science stream need not do their MSc, as Bangalore University offers a BS (Bachelor of Science) programme, a four-year integrated or honours course.
Speaking at a programme to felicitate retired teachers on Thursday, vice chancellor B Thimme Gowda said the university had already introduced a four-year BS course, which has three students presently.
He said he wanted the affiliated colleges to offer the course to their students, which is said to be on a par with the engineering courses. “This course facilitates students to directly pursue PhD in science once they complete the BS.
If students want a mere degree, they can exit after three years. Also, if they want only a postgraduate degree, they have to study MS only for a year,” said Gowda. The Indian Institute of Science also offers a four-year BS course.
Speaking to reporters, Gowda said colleges needed to improve their infrastructure facilities to offer this course.
