On Saturday, D V Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation, laid the foundation stone for quadrupling of the railway line between Bengaluru Cantonment and Whitefield at the KSR Bengaluru Railway Station.

The minister also laid foundation stone for the six escalators coming up at the KSR Bengaluru Railway Station apart from inaugurating a fast-food unit at the Bengaluru Cantonment Railway Station during the same function.

P C Mohan, Member of Parliament, representing Bengaluru Central, who was present on the occasion said KSR Bengaluru is the biggest railway station in Karnataka. According to the MP, about 2,20,000 people use the station as 150 trains originate from the station everyday.

“It is heartening to note that the railway station is being raised to international standards by providing modern amenities like escalators for the benefit of passengers,” the MP added.

He also stressed that the quadrupling of the Bengaluru Cantonment-Whitefield section and the commissioning of auto-signalling along the section, will extensively help the people, especially those in Mahadevapura Assembly constituency where majority of the residents belong to the working class. As the commuters travelling between Cantonment and Whitefield are on the rise, the quadrupling and the auto-signalling of the rail section would help ease traffic congestion as well.
