The Central Crime Branch arrested a 32-year-old bookie, running a cricket betting racket through a mobile app on Friday. 

The Central Crime Branch arrested a 32-year-old bookie, running a cricket betting racket through a mobile app on Friday. 

Accused Sheikh Shafi, a resident of Lottegollahalli, was arrested after a few who lost the bet amount tipped the police about the racket.

During the raid, police recovered Rs 2.5 lakh and 18 mobile phones from Shafi. Police said he had taken bets from punters for the recent IPL T20 cricket match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers on Thursday.

Police are searching for Shafi’s associate Mukesh, who is said to be the mastermind behind the betting.

Efforts are on to nab him, police said.
