A cricket coach has been arrested for sexually harassing a 13-year-old boy trainee of his academy.

The suspect, identified as Naseer, runs the Ace Cricket Academy in Jalahalli and is a resident of Vidyaranyapura, the police said. He has been produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.

According to police, the incident took place on Saturday at around 6.30 pm at the GKVK campus.

Naseer had picked victim in his Maruthi Omni car from his academy for a match at a ground on the university campus.

On their way back after the match, Naseer stopped the car at a secluded spot on the campus and started inappropriately touching the boy's private parts.

He then made the victim touch his privates, the police said.

The perturbed minor disclosed his coach's misdemeanours to his parents after reaching home.

His parents approached the Yelahanka police on Sunday morning and lodged a complaint. The parents also told the police that the coach had taken their son into confidence by promising him to prepare for an IPL league.

Naseer has been booked under sections 8 and 13 of Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Serial offender

A source from sports department said Naseer had been cast out of a reputed school for the same reason around six years ago.

He has also been accused of other irregularities such as fielding over-aged players in inter-school tournaments.

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) was aware of this coach's illegal activities and sexual predation. Yet, the association turned a blind eye and allowed him to start a cricket academy in Jalahalli, sources added.
