Last Updated 30 July 2018, 19:27 IST

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) conducted a special drive against commercial establishments that were not using Kannada in their name boards on Monday.

BBMP officials conducted the drive against English name boards at the Forum Mall at Koramangala. More than 10 shops were given notices to use Kannada boards within seven days.

Dr Bhagyalaxmi, BBMP medical officer who conducted the drive said, “We have given notices to the shops which have violated the rule. We will cancel their trade licence if they fail to change the boards to Kannada within the seven days.”

After pro-Kannada organisation members met Mayor R Sampath Raj and complained about Kannada not being used on name boards, the Mayor directed Palike officials to conduct a special drive from Monday.

According to the civic body, name boards of commercial establishments should have 60% space for Kannada and 40% for English.
