A 65-year-old woman living alone as the caretaker of a farmhouse in western Bengaluru's Kengeri was found murdered on Friday night.

Gowramma was found with her throat slit but none of her valuables, including her purse, is missing, police said. The murder emerged after a cow reared by Gowramma and tied near the outhouse started mooing incessantly as it was to be taken out for grazing. A security guard posted nearby arrived to check on Gowramma but found the outhouse locked. He called up Gowramma's grandson, Madhusudan.

Madhusudan came to the farmhouse and peeped into the outhouse only to find Gowramma lying in a pool of blood. Police rushed to the spot after being informed. They later shifted the body for post-mortem.

A police officer said Gowramma was wearing a gold chain and earrings, all of which were found intact. Her purse was also left untouched. The officer suspects that someone known to Gowramma murdered her.

A case of murder has been opened at the Kengeri police station.
