Ex-ACP booked for shoddy dowry death probe

A retired assistant commissioner of police has been booked for a shoddy investigation into a dowry death nine years ago.

Based on a complaint by A Vijay Kumar, Under Secretary of the Karnataka government, Internal Administrative Department (Police Services), the Byappanahalli police registered an FIR against Manjunath G B, former ACP, Halasuru, charging him under section 218 (public servant framing incorrect records or writing with intent to save person from punishment or property from forfeiture) on September 11.

The complaint stated Manjunath conducted shoddy investigations to help the accused get acquitted. The department conducted a detailed probe and found out it was a deliberate attempt by Manjunath to help the accused get away. A complaint was lodged with the Byappanahalli police who registered an FIR.
