The High Court of Karnataka has allowed temporary hoardings in the city to advertise for Aero India 2019, after the BBMP agreed to ensure that the materials used are 100% PVC free.

The court granted permission after the BBMP commissioner filed an affidavit, seeking permission to allow Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to put up temporary wooden hoardings and placards en route to the show on the condition that the material is 100% cotton.

HAL approached the BBMP on February 6 for permission to advertise for Aero India 2019 as directed by the Ministry of Defence. The event will be organised at the Yelahanka Air Force Station in the city between February 20 and 24.

Even as HAL asked to put up hoardings at certain prime locations, the civic body maintained it did not issue fresh permissions to display advertisements.

In its affidavit, the civic body noted that Aero India 2019 is an international event with participation from several companies and the public. It said temporary hoardings were, therefore, necessary to give key information to those unfamiliar with the local language.

Considering the above factors cited by HAL and the fact that Aero India 2019 is organised by the Government of India, the BBMP requested the court to pass appropriate orders to allow the civic body to give HAL permission to put up temporary wooden structures and placards providing the route to the venue with the condition that the material is 100% cotton and PVC free.

The Palike also said it informed HAL to remove the hoardings immediately after the event and inform it about the same.
