A farmer from Tamil Nadu underwent a successful heart transplant at a city hospital.
The organ was harvested from a 42-year-old woman from Bengaluru, who had met with a road accident and was declared brain-dead. After her family gave consent, her heart was donated to a 39-year-old farmer from Dharmapuri, who was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy.
Dr Vivek Jawali, chief cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon and chairman, Department of Cardiovascular Sciences, Fortis Hospitals, and his team performed the procedure.
