Angry that his friend pestered him to buy a drink, a man bludgeoned the 19-year-old to death at a graveyard in Ejipura on Thursday night.

Akash alias Chennai, an unemployed native of Tamil Nadu, lived with his grandmother in Indira Layout. A senior police official said they arrested Mahendra (23) after a preliminary probe revealed that Akash regularly harassed him to buy alcohol, and he killed the youngster out of rage. The official said they frequently quarrelled on Akash’s insistence that Mahendra should buy him a drink daily.

On Thursday, Akash had returned from his native and they met near the bar. The teen asked Mahendra to get him a drink, adding that he would assemble a gang that would strike terror in the area.

Enraged by Akash’s behaviour, Mahendra took him to the graveyard and allowed him to consume liquor. When Akash was in an inebriated condition, Mahendra stabbed him and attacked him with other weapons before fleeing the place. Passersby spotted Akash’s body and alerted the Viveknagar police. The police caught Mahendra on Friday afternoon and he confessed to the crime.
