Midnight GST celebration at KIA

At the stroke of midnight on Friday-Saturday, as the Goods and Service Tax (GST) rolled in nationwide, there was a small celebration at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

Officers of the Airport Customs stood in attention, singing the National Anthem.

Sweetmeats were distributed to all the passengers arriving at the terminal from international flights.

“GST is the single most important tax reform undertaken since Independence,” said Harsh Vardhan
Umre, Additional Commissioner, Customs, KIA.

GST, said Umre, is a step towards furthering the economic integration of the country.

‘Officials fully prepared’

“Customs officials are fully prepared to face the challenge for implementation of the
historic change in the country’s taxation policy,” he said.

Dr  Shishir Gupta, Commandant, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), was the chief guest at the event where customs officers, officers from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), immigration, airline managers, Air India Sats, BIAL, ground staffers, and other stakeholders were also present.
