Motorist hit by bus, killed

A 26-year-old motorist was knocked down by a BMTC bus near Sumanahalli in Kamakshipalya on Saturday evening.

The victim has been identified as Venugopal, whose address the police are yet to trace.

According to the police, the accident happened around 5 pm near the Chowdeshwari bus stand when Venugopal was riding on his bike towards Sumanahalli junction from the Laggere bridge. He was wearing a helmet, the police said.

The overspeeding bus knocked him and he fell off his bike, sustaining head injuries. He died on the spot. The police said Venugopal sustained injuries to his ear and died instantly. His body was shifted to the Victoria Hospital for postmortem. The bus driver abandoned the vehicle and has been absconding, fearing public fury.
