The city police are in search of a man who flashed at a woman techie and assaulted her on the busy HAL road on Tuesday afternoon over a road rage incident.

The HAL police have registered an FIR against the accused, booking him under IPC sections 509 – word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman and 323 – assault. They are tracing him by his bike’s registration number.

According to the police, the incident happened around 12.40 pm near the busy HAL Museum junction when the 28-year-old woman techie was headed to her office on her scooter. An unidentified man followed her, overtook and intercepted her vehicle. He then started abusing her for riding in a rash and negligent manner. The woman, who had no idea of what happened, argued with him over his behaviour.

Heated arguments ensued between the two, when the man used filthy language and flashed his privates at the woman. The shocked woman pulled out her mobile phone in order to take a photograph of him to report him to the police. Enraged, he assaulted her with his hands on her helmet, snatched her mobile and smashed it on the road. He then put his hands inside her helmet and scratched her face, the police said. The techie then headed to the HAL police station and filed a complaint. “We have the registration number of the bike of the accused and are trying to trace him. He will be nabbed soon,” said a senior police officer.

Salesman arrested

Meanwhile, police have arrested a 35-year-old saree salesman who misbehaved with a 27-year-old woman customer on the pretext of draping a new saree at a showroom in Marathahalli on February 18.

Rajkumar, a salesman at the showroom, has been charged with IPC section 354-A - sexual harassment and remanded in judicial custody.

The victim, a private firm employee, was buying a saree with her mother for a family function, the police said.

While selecting sarees, she wanted to try one for which the accused offered help and touched her inappropriately. The victim raised an objection and complained to the management, following which the accused argued rudely.

Taking strong objection, the victim filed a complaint with the HAL police, who rushed to the shop and arrested the salesman.
