Thoothukudi police shooting: Bengaluru protests against police firing

Last Updated 24 May 2018, 14:06 IST

Hundreds of people gathered on Thursday to protest against the Thoothukudi police shooting in front of the Vedanta office on MG road in Bengaluru.

The gathering of political parties, student organisations and other social groups demanded strong action against the police involved in the shooting. They also demanded the resignation of the chief minister to own the moral responsibility for the incident.

“The firing could have been averted had the police handled the situation properly,” said Vishnu Shankar, a protester. He alleged that the killing exposed the larger conspiracy to silence the protests against Sterlite.

“The video clippings revealed that the police had killed the protesters with specific targets. They are responsible for the deaths of my brothers and sisters,” said Rajesh, an activist.

“The police resorted to firing without giving any warning to the protesters and violated rules to be followed during riots,” said Thyagaraju, another protester.
