Rains wreak havoc in Hassan district

The heavy rains, which lashed the city on Sunday, have brought in woes for citizens having houses in low-lying areas inundated. The rain water mixed with drainage water and entered several houses in Ambedkar Colony.

Farmers who were worried about dry spell for more than one hour in August, are now in confused lot. The rains have threatened to destroy the standing crops.

Breach of tanks

The ryots fear of breach of many tanks and canals if the rains continue for some more days. Already 15 houses have been destroyed and more than 150 acres of paddy and jowar fields in five hoblis are under knee deep water.

The delayed monsoon has brought in innumerable problems for the residents of Hassan City as water borne diseases, fever and infections are on the rise. Rains have already claimed two lives in the district so far.

Opposition party leader in Legislative council Motamma would visit the rain-hit areas in the district on Tuesday. She will be visiting Devihalli in Shanthigrama in Hassan taluk, where a boy die of lightning on Sunday.
