Chaos after Yogeshwar's gold as Rahul's security breached

Last Updated 09 October 2010, 14:00 IST

Yesterday, Rahul went to watch Olympic bronze medalist boxer Vijender Singh’s bout.
The pandemonium started once Yogeshwar won the gold. Suddenly a group of men all having accreditation started jostling the already exhausted wrestler trying to come in the frame as photographers clicked away. Then suddenly, they dragged Yogeshwar towards the exit door and wanted to go up so that the wrestler could meet Rahul
The security personnel rightfully did not allow as the protocol does not permit so many people near a VVIP whose security is of Z Plus category.

However, it was Hooda and his band of men who used their clout to defy the police orders and went upto the stands. With so many people around, Rahul’s security guards as well as the volunteers manning the area could do precious little as there was atleast 30 people around Yogeshwar trying to come close to Rahul.

Even people who were seated till then closed in and there wasn’t adequate policemen in the stands. The volunteers and the staffers deployed by the OC were at total loss in handling the situation as it has been a case with them throughout this quadrennial extravaganza.

Rahul who was clearly embarrassed at the proceedings though patted Yogeshwar for his achievement and said a few words. "He told me to win gold at the Olympics," Yogeshwar later said.

The pandemonium that was created again raised questions about the the security arrangements made by the organizing committee.

However, when Narsingh won the gold medal, the celebrations were tempered and good sense prevailed. Rahul waited till Narsingh got his medal and left immediately after the national anthem was over.
