LabVIEW is a platform which creates a development environment for a visual programming language for design, test, measurement and control applications.

Speaking on the occasion, Jayaram Pillai, Managing Director, NI-India said the LabVIEW tools is aiding engineering students across India in their innovation work. "The latest version will help engineering students understand and execute their innovate project work more efficiently," he said.

Although there are many engineering students passing out every year, the hiring percentage from IT and engineering based companies has drastically dropped over the past 10 years. One of the reasons why there are less engineers being hired is lack of quality education in most of our engineering colleges, he said.

LabVIEW application was introduced as a subject many years ago and many engineering colleges in Bangalore like RVCE, BMS College, PESIT and Manipal Institute of Technology have tied up with NI for their innovative project works.  There are 400 such colleges across India.  Besides helping engineering students, LabVIEW has helped SMEs solve their problems through their 'SME Benefit Programmes' too.  The programme will shortly be used by the Indian Railways to avoid any possible derailment where the programme will caution Railway Authorities about any dents in the wheels. The programme has also been used in many private hospitals in Bangalore.
