The award will be presented by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa in front of the illuminated Amba Vilas Palace in Mysore on Saturday at 6:30 pm.

Announcing the award at a news conference here on Friday, Medical Education and District-In-Charge Minister S A Ramdas said the award carries a citation and a monthly honorarium of Rs 2,000.

Born on October 10, 1922 to Krishnarao and Gowramma couple, Pandit Seshagiri initially learnt sitar under Ustad Wazir Khan and violin under Mallanna.

Later, he switched over to tabla and learnt from Pandit Narayanrao Indurkar and Lalji Gokhale.

He is a staff artiste of All India Radio, Dharwad. A physically challenged, Pandit Seshagiri has performed at all major functions in India and abroad.

He has accompanied noted Hindustani vocalist, Gangubai Hangal at all major programmes held in USA, France, Canada, Nepal and Pakistan. Besides, he has accompanied stalwarts of Hindustani music like Pandit Sawai Gandharwa, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur, Pandit Jasraj, Pandit V G Jog, Pandit K G Gindi, Ustad Rehmat Khan on Sitar, noted Tumri singer Girija Devi and Begum Akthar.
