Police may re-open Shivappa Bangera murder case

Responding to an urge made by Dr B R Ambedkar Pratishtana President Shivappa Renkedaguttu during the SC/ST’s monthly grievances hearing meet here on Sunday, Superintendent of Police Dr A Subrahmanyeshwar Rao said a fresh probe would be ordered into the case after discussing the same with his colleagues.

The Dalit leader raised the issue in the meet and urged that the case file should be reopened and investigated again since the filed had been closed half-way “due to external pressures”.

Shivappa Bangera, a Dalit leader, was a non-teaching staff in Mangalore University, who was killed in 2003 at near his house in Bantwal taluk “for unknown reasons”.

The SP said the file had been closed with a remark “undetected case”. The issue will be discussed in the department, and if it is found that a fresh probe is necessary, the same will be ordered, he assured.

Ganesh Nidle, the chief convener of Dalit Vidyarthi Okkuta complained that the students are disturbed due to the obscene cinema posters pasted on the compound walls of Kudmul Ranga Rao memorial residential hostel in Kodialbail.

Responding to the complaint, the SP said a case would be registered against the theatre owner/s concerned if the hostel warden files a case with the police.

Liquor in grocery shop!

Jayaprakash, a SC student complained that illegal liquor sale is going on at a grocery shop in Kurudakatte of Punacha in Bantwal taluk, which has proved to be a big problem to the public including women and children.

He also complained that some of the city buses in Mangalore do not provide the facility of ‘concession ticket’ to the students.

Meanwhile, Shivappa Attole, a DSS leader urged that officials from Revenue Department to be present in the grievances hearing meeting which would be helpful to solve various problems on the spot. He also complained that some city buses do not follow their routes in the evening hours, while many autorickshaw drivers do not agree to come to certain places in the night.
