Govt sensitive towards health, education: CM

Speaking after inaugurating a programme to distribute “Manipal Arogya Suraksha Cards” to the beneficiaries, organised by G Shankar Family Trust, Ambalpadi, Mogaveera Yuva Sangatane, Udupi and Manipal University here at Gandhi Maidan on Saturday, he said government is sensitive towards the health and educational necessities of the people.

Vajpayee Arogya Yojana has been introduced in six districts of North Karnataka. The programme will be extended shortly to other parts of the State. An individual suffering from dreadful disease like cancer will be given Rs 2 lakhs to undergo operation under this programme. Suvarna Arogya Nidhi Scheme has been introduced to facilitate school going children with health check up facilities. As many as 92 lakh students have been benefited from the programme in the year 2010-11, he said.

Desilting works

Yeddyurappa said Koderi harbor will be renewed at the cost of Rs 30 crore. Desilting works have been taken at Shiroor, Hejmadi and Alvekodi ports at the cost of Rs 20 lakhs. The amount earmarked for the beneficiaries under Matsyashraya Yojane will be hiked from Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000, he said.

As many as 7,500 families with 40,000 beneficiaries were given away with Arogya cards.
Later, he laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 121 crore comprising various developmental programmes at Baindur. He also inaugurated Rs 9 crore development projects on the occasion.

Addressing the huge gathering, Yeddyurappa lamented that the opposition party is frightened with the success of the State government.  The fear is reflected in the current activities of the opposition parties. Measures will be taken to give taluk status to Byndoor and Brahmavar after 2012. The process is delayed owing to some law related problems. A sum of Rs 5 crore will be immediately released to compensate the damages owing to heavy rain in the district since Friday, he said. A sum of Rs 9 crore will be allotted to repair the drainage constructions in Kollur, he added. Earlier, he inaugurated the divisional office of Mescom in Kundapur.
