'Donate eyes, give sight to visually impaired'

Speaking at a voluntary eye donation registration and felicitation to visually impaired teachers organised in memory of Pandit Puttaraj Gawai here, he said according to statistics, there are 7,963 visually impaired in the district.

If every individual across the world pledges to donate eyes it was possible to give sight to all visually impaired people within ten days.

Many, despite being blind, have made great achievement. The best example is late Pandit Puttaraj Gawai. Even  Sri Basavananda Swamiji is touring villages and instilling confidence among people. These two pontiffs are model for people, he added.

On this occasion, N Manjunath, Kumaraswamy, H V Shivakumar, Nanjundaiah, Nagaraj and B V Lokesh were felicitated in recognition of their services. They were felicitated by G R Kenchegowda and Nayakarahalli Manjegowda.

Sri Basavananda Swamiji was present. Hassan Taluk Vachana Sahitya President C K Bharateesh presided.

Susheela Somashekar, a writer spoke on life and achievements of Pandit Gawai. T Ramakrishnaiah, Hanumantha Nayak, H S Anilkumar and G R Ravishankar were present.
