Last Updated 07 November 2010, 18:21 IST

Most Bangaloreans preferred to stay off roads and opted to travel outside the City to celebrate the festival.

Bangalore has over 30 lakh vehicular population out of which 75 per cent are two-wheelers. During the last three days only 25 per cent of the total two-wheelers and 60 per cent of the four-wheeler population was seen plying on roads.

Traffic however was heavy on the highways especially the Bangalore-Mysore highway followed by Bangalore-Tirupathi highway.

The Bangalore-Mysore highway records 8,000 to 9,000 passing car units (PCUs) every hour which increased to 25,000 PCUs during the weekend, said Bhaskar Rao, Transport Commissioner. On the day of Diwali (Friday), only 25 to 30 percent of total fleet of buses were plying across the State due to low turnout of commuters.
