Yahoo! launches mobile friendly mail, messenger

The beta version of new Yahoo Mail and Messenger products, available from Wednesday, is also leaner and faster and will be consistent across various form factors.

Combining simple designing with better performance, Yahoo promises lesser spam than Gmail and Hotmail in its new mail. The products lay greater emphasis on support for mobile platform.

Briefing reporters, Yahoo Communications & Communities Product Management Vice President Kakul Srivastava, said the new mail has same user interface across various devices that range from PC, iOS-based devices such as the iPhones and iPads and Android-based mobile phones.  Besides letting users send messages through IM and SMS, it also allows people to run slide shows from Picasa and Flickr and organise mails depending on its importance. The new platform also let users organise and prioritise different circles of contacts they have in their social networking platform.

Yahoo Vice President (Engineering for Mail) Michael Curtis said we will continue to expand our platform with more games and apps, letting users access them from the Mail itself. India team of Yahoo contributed to performance and testing aspects of the new product, he added.
