Creativity on the ramp

The two-day fashion extravaganza bestowed specialhonours to emerging and established names in the fashion industry. The best among the young designers were Ritu and Rochana who displayed their collection which drew inspiration from nature.

Drawing motivation from tree barks and true to the artistic theme, it was pleasantly wonderful.

“I absolutely loved their collection and can see my wife in all the 16 designs,” said Fraser Castellino, who was present at the event. The other designers included Julie Kagti, who was awarded the Best use of traditional textiles award for her stunning contemporary
collection. Nimirita and Amanda Bachalli, too had a brilliant display for
Bangaloreans.

Amanda’s collection had vintage and French elements and projected a positive fresh look.
The awards for the Best Beach Wear and Resort Wear were bagged by Amanda.Ending the spectacular evening was Kannada actor Diganth, who walked the ramp for Kolkata-based designer, Sharbari Datta, in the men’s finale.

Sharbari Datta, was also awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award, India. Sharbari specialises in Bhadralok dhothi kurta and sherwani ensemble, all hand done in elaborate Kantha embroidery and Swarovski sequences.

Kannada actress Ragini Dwivedi was the show-stopper for the women’s finale by Bangalore-based designer Raj Shroff, who was also awarded The Best Label Launch of 2010 Award. Bibi Russell, Bangladeshi model-turned-fashion designer, stole the show entirely on the second day with her amazing black and white
collection.

From clothes to accessories, all were unique and very characteristic of Bibi. One of the most interesting accessories used by her were glasses with colourful rickshaw art.
She was also bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award, International.
Her designs were a combination of simplicity and glamour that made them a big hit instantly.

Sanchita, Anjalie Sharma, Ramesh Dembla, Satkrit and Sneha were the other designers who showcased their work. Ending the evening of ‘high fashion’ with a bang was Kangana Ranaut, walking the ramp, displaying denim wear of a well-known brand, for which she is the official brand ambassador.

The models were dolled up by the international make-up artist Diego Schober, who used really elaborate eye make-up thereby recreating the look befitting the clothes.
