Police foil BJP worker's attempt to set himself ablaze

The man, who allegedly attempted self-immolation at Mandya, 120 km from here, was taken into custody, police said.

The Karnataka Chief Minister has come under increasing pressure to quit after the alleged land scams involving his family surfaced.

Meanwhile, some parts of the state witnessed protests by BJP and Congress workers -- the former in support of Yeddyurappa and the latter demanding his immediate ouster.
In Gulbarga and Mandya, BJP activists took out a procession and urged the party leadership not to axe Yeddyurappa.

On the other hand, a Kannada protagonist organisation went on a protest in Mandya demanding the chief minister's resignation.In Kadur at Chikmagalur district, Congress activists agitated demanding Yeddyurappa's resignation
