Total bundh in CM's home turf

Shops and commercial establishments remained closed in the town from dawn to dusk while public transport vehicles remained off the road. A holiday was declared for educational institutions as a precautionary measure while banks and government offices functioned as usual. Ex-MLC and KPCC member Shantaveerappa Gowda and 15 other Congress leaders were under pre-emptive arrest.

Tension prevailed for some time when BJP workers gathered near bus stand in large numbers to take out a victory procession to celebrate B S Yeddyurappa’s continuation in power. Police denied permission for the procession to avoid the possible clash as Congress also had given call for bundh. Police also dispersed the BJP workers who tried to forced traders to resume the business.

Police were deployed in a large number to avoid untoward incidents. Eastern range IGP Satyanarayana Rao, Additional SP M B Pavin supervised the security arrangements.
