Three policemen suspended

ASI Chandru, Head Constable Narayana and Constable Naveen are the suspended personnel.

Sources informed that four policemen knocked at the doors of Vijayapura resident Sundaresh Gowda late on Saturday night. Since Gowda had business rivalry with his neighbour Mallesh, he presumed it must be Mallesh creating trouble and hence did not opt to open the door.

Later, the people at the door told that they were police and when Gowda opened the door, they arrested him saying that they found packets of Marijuana in his house. He was forcefully taken to Basavanahalli Police Station.

When the news of Gowda’s arrest spread, Bajrang Dal activists staged a protest in the city demanding action against officials who arrested Gowda on lame reason. SP Vikas Kumar directed DySP Vedamurthy to investigate the matter.

As per rules senior officials should conduct raids in drug peddling and narcotic smuggling cases but here junior officials voluntarily took up the matter.

In this regard, SP has suspended three officials. Town Circle Inspector Siddaiah has been asked to hold an inquiry into the case and submit the report.
