Addressing the party workers convention here, he said the party would field its candidates to all 40 ZP and 150 TP seats in the district. The BJP is the only alternative to Janata Dal (Secular) and Congress has lost its base. It was the duty of the party workers tell the voters about the new programmes launched by the State government in the last two and a half years. “I have never come here to criticise anybody. Having BJP members in ZPs and TPs will help the government to understand problems of the people. Besides it will also help to bring more funds from tegovernment. At least till the elections are over the party workers have to bury their hatchet and help the party to win the maximum number of seats”.

Somanna said there are not much contestants for taluk panchayats as they don’t have power or funds to take up developmental works in their respective constituencies. In the wake of this, the government is seriously planning to give more powers to TPs apart from releasing ` two crore for each TP”.

The minister said usually candidates belonging to the ruling party would win maximum number of seats in Panchayat Raj elections. Since the BJP is in power it is obvious that it would bag more number of ZPs and TPs in the State. A Congress leader has said that BJP would take control of 18 to 20 ZPs as he did not have faith on his own party. The party workers should make use of the situation and ensure victory of more candidates in the coming elections.

Former MLA, B B Shivappa said there were lot of aspirants to contest the polls and there is no fault to fight for the tickets. At the same time it was not possible for the party to give tickets to all. It would be wrong to differentiate among new comers and others.

Once they joined the party they would automatically become members of the same family. Without bothering to whom the party would give tickets, everybody should strive hard in the victory of candidates.

MLC G Madhusudhan, former MLA, Hanumegowda, Dr Sundar, Narayana Swamy, Navile Annappa and former MLA, Gurudev also spoke.
