Four persons sustained injuries and several vehicles were damaged in a group clash during a Hindu Samajotsav bike rally here on Sunday.

A rally of about 100 bikes was taken out as a prelude to the Samajotsav from Kota to Kundapur. Unidentified men threw stones on the bikers as the rally reached a place of worship in Enkodi.

Even as the rally was suspended, bottles were hurled on the participants injuring Sandeep, Suresh and Avinash Rai. Soon the situation snowballed into a clash as few in the rally retaliated by throwing stones at a house in Kodi, injuring Sayyed Beary. The Samajotsav is scheduled for Monday.

Vehicles and houses were pelted with stones by a mob in Enkodi too. A fancy store and a hotel at Basrur Moorukai were damaged and a two-wheeler parked outside a hotel was also set on fire. Shops at Shastri Circle also bore the brunt of mob fury. Violence spread to Gangolli where a group of unidentified persons attacked a shop and threw stones on vehicles.

Under control

As soon as the news spread, Kundapur division ASP Dr Ramnivas Sepat rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Speaking to Deccan Herald, Superintendent of Police Praveen Pawar said 14 persons have been taken into custody in connection with the violence.

Additional forces have been deployed in Kundapur and the situation is under control, he said.
