Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, BJP City Unit President H S Sachidananda Murthy said the party will go to people seeking votes in the name of development.

“Being on the fringes of the BBMP, the issues pertaining to Bangalore urban panchayats are unique compared to other Zilla Panchayats. We plan to chalk out a specific action plan to tackle the issues”, he said.

The party has listed curbing encroachments, earmarking a certain number of seats for rural students in the various elite schools coming under the Zilla Panchayat’s jurisdiction in its priority list.

The BJP is fielding candidates in all the 34 seats in the Zilla Panchayat and 84 seats in four Taluk Panchayats in Bangalore Urban.

He said party candidates in three Taluk Panchayat seats are likely to be elected unopposed after the last date for withdrawal of candidature.

BJP media in-charge S Prakash said the party will launch its State manifesto for the Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat polls on Thursday. While party State president K S Eshwarappa will be releasing the manifesto in Bangalore, it will also be released simultaneously in six other centres, he said.

The manifesto will have five main sections - infrastructure, food security, health, education, agriculture and empowerment of women among others.
