The members of Karnataka Labour Union, United Plantations, Karnataka Provincial Plantation Workers, Mysore Agriculture Labour Association, National Union Congress, Coorg District Workers, Sahyadri Plantation and General Workers Union and other organisations took part in the protest.

The protesters have urged the planters to increase the wage scale of those labourers who pluck coffee seeds in Hassan and Chikmagalur district. They have demanded to fix Rs 2 for every kilo gram of coffee seeds plucked, once the plucking amount crosses 50 kg and have asked to fix a separate wage for the labourers who pluck Arabica and Robusta coffee plants in Kodagu and Chikmagalur district.

The other demands include, fixing Re 1 for every kilogram of tea leaf plucked once the plucking quantity reaches 20 kg. The protesters have warned of staging a severe stir if their demands are not met.

One of the labour associations President V Sukumar said that KPA has not responded to any of the labourers problems since past six decades.

Even in the recently held KPA meeting, the KPA board has ignored the labourers by not inviting them to the meeting, he said.
