Speaking at Third Makkala Sahithya Sammelan organised by the Taluk Kannada Sahithya Parishat, Srijwalamalini Athishaya Kshethra and Akashavani Bhadravathi at Bastimutt, she said “it is a tragedy we are still following the Western education system even after attaining independence. The education experts are of the opinion that education should be imparted in mother tongue till tenth standard. Owing to the English medium schools, children neither learn Kannada nor English properly. Kannada literature has a history of 2000 years,” she added.

She said “there is a need to remove wrong notion that education is only for writing examination and to gain employment. Unless we remove this wrong notion, we can not have society-friendly education system.”

The knowledge of English is essential for communicating in the national-level. There is a need to learn English as a language. However, English should not become a medium of instruction, she added.

Simhagadde Bastimutt’s Sri Lakshmisenabhattaraka Seer inaugurated the programme.
