Record domestic air traffic in November

Of the air carriers, Jet Airways and its low cost carrier JetLite gained a market share of more than 26 per cent.

The total domestic passengers carried by the scheduled Indian airlines last month was 48.75 lakh, compared to 46.17 lakh in October, official air traffic figures released today said.
While Jet Airways and JetLite together carried 12.77 lakh, it was followed by Kingfisher-Kingfisher Red combine with 9.32 lakh and Air India (Domestic) with 8.36 lakh passengers.

Even as no-frills carrier IndiGo flew 8.43 lakh passengers in November, Spice Jet and GoAir carried 6.50 lakh and 3.37 lakh passengers respectively during the month, the figures showed.

In the market share for November, Jet-JetLite combine bagged 26.2 per cent, while Vijay Mallya-owned Kingfisher Airlines continued its second spot with 19.1 per cent.

However, for the first time, IndiGo captured third spot by upstaging national carrier Air India with a market share of 17.3 per cent, the figures showed.

On the other hand, Air India reported a slight fall of 0.6 per cent in its market share to 17.1 per cent.

Among the other carriers, SpiceJet had 13.3 per cent, while GoAir reported 6.9 per cent market share in November.

IndiGo and SpiceJet led the way in seat factor, or the average percentage of seats per aircraft filled during a flight, recording 91 and 87.5 per cent respectively.

On the other hand, Air India (Domestic) and Jet Airways were the lowest at 76.9 and 77 per cent respectively, the figures showed.
